Creating a hub to find streams

Hubs connect the recordings to the listeners. You'll need at least one hub to share and connect everything together. To get your own hub, follow these steps:

  • Open the _sortition app.
  • Click the Create New Hub button. This will show you the hub URL you've created.
  • Click the Copy URL button. This will copy the displayed hub URL to your clipboard.
  • Share this URL with other people you want to collaborate with on _noisecrypt.

Components

_noisecrypt comprises 4 distinct apps. These components work together to create a sonic space. To learn more about the concept and background, visit the about page.

The diagram is a good reference to see how all the parts connect.

_sortition

A hub server for responding to requests with random redirects.

_sludge

An audio stream server based on modern live streaming systems.

_splutter

In-browser audio live stream recording, encoding and uploading, the input interface to a sludge stream.

_syllid

In-browser audio live stream playback, the output interface to a sludge stream.

Future

Currently, the primary goal is to get more people involved in each of the three aspects:

  • using _noisecrypt as an instrument
  • experiencing _noisecrypt by participating as a listener
  • contributing to the codebase and setting up their own servers
