This app explores the nature of virtual worlds and their use for engaging with sound. Lacking a physical space to enjoy spatial sound, a surrogate may be used instead. This project allows the listener to experience drifting through the hallways and rooms of a brutalist building. They can hear sound positioned as though it were emanating from speakers in three dimensional space.
This experiment helps provide an understanding of how people perceive audio spatially, although synthetically. It also reveals how the visual aspects of an environment can affect the experience of both the self and the audio. Lighting, spacing, color, movement and absurdity are explored.
